It looks like the old Star Trek will get a bit of a makeover. Here are two trailers. The first is more of a teaser than a trailer: The second is longer and gives more hints about the characters: The movie is set as a prelude to the 1960’s TV series. In my humble opinion, the last good Star Trek series was The Next Generation series and cast. The franchise went down hill on a steep slope after that. All but the first movie were pretty good, though. If this one returns to the mold of the original, just with a different cast, then cool. We’ll find out in May, 2009, if the schedul... [read more]
add to discussionI’m sick and tired of the stupid home security system commercials on TV. “We’re sending someone right way.” Yeah, to mark the outline around where you’re body will be laying. They almost always show situations when the alarm would not be set in real life. They portray the women as helpless sheep miraculously saved by an electronic system that’s easily disabled. Here’s an actual 911 recording with a more likely outcome (Warning: very disturbing): By the time the cops got there, she was already raped. Violent predators know they may have only a few ... add to discussionI’ve read a lot of post-election comments, but this one caps them all so far. No He Can’t by Anne Wortham, a self-proclaimed black individualist liberal, reminded me of a conversation that I overheard years ago. Near the end of the disastrous Carter Administration, I was leaving the gym behind a group of fellow airmen who happened to be black. Apparently they had been talking about Jimmy Carter’s failed “you’re a victim” malaise politics before they I reached the door behind them. One young man was telling the group that he didn’t give a hang about ... [read more]
add to discussionThere’s an excellent discussion of the NW Presbytery action (or lack thereof) on TE Peter Leithart over at Ordinary Means (HT: Heidelblog). Dr. Scott Clark has some great background links at the Heidelblog link as well. You can catch my summary post on the situation here. For convenience, here are links to the presbytery’s majority report and the excellent minority report. The podcast is about an hour long but provides excellent insights from Jason Stellman into the meeting at NW Presbytery that cannot be directly gleaned from the reports. I spent some time last night going over... [read more]
add to discussionHere’s a great piece by Michelle Malkin on the gutless cowards spreading baseless trash about Governor Palin. As usual, Michelle is spot on target. McCain would not have done nearly well in the election without the strength, wit, realness, and legitimate conservatism of Sarah Palin. Let me be clear. I supported the McCain/Palin campaign. I spent hours making phone calls for the campaign. I knocked on doors to help get out the vote for the Republicans. I put up hard-earned and, at the moment, scarce cash to support the effort. Many of my friends did so as well. But listen carefully, go... [read more]
add to discussion“Of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people, commencing demagogues and ending tyrants.” –Alexander Hamilton Of course, most of the folks who voted for Obama will have to look up a number of words in that quote. Consider the irony. Under the heading of “be careful what you ask for, you just might get it,” there’s this from the Obama victory rally in front of the White House: Obama's true colors You can see the video suppressed by the main stream m... add to discussionSome quotes from today’s Patriot Post: “We should never despair, our Situation before has been unpromising and has changed for the better, so I trust, it will again. If new difficulties arise, we must only put forth new Exertions and proportion our Efforts to the exigency of the times.” –George Washington “Most change in America doesn’t come from politicians. It comes from people inventing things and creating. The telephone, the telegraph, the computer, all those things didn’t come from government. Our world is going to get better and better, as lon... add to discussionMichelle Malkin has found a scary foresight on Obama’s civilian national security force. They are Black Panthers, like their old, terrorist days. Obama’s personal Schutzstaffel? Maybe they don’t know that Pennsylvania is a must-issue concealed carry state. Thank God for the 2nd Amendment, so that ordinary citizens can defend their right to vote against thugs like these Black Panthers. It’s not too late. Vote for Freedom. Vote for John McCain.
add to discussionWell, this is a step in the right direction. I found a launchpad discussion on the virtual mouse detection in VMWare Workstation with an Ubuntu Intrepid guest. A fix has been proposed and uploaded to the intrepid-proposed repository. I have tested this and it seems to work fine in my Intrepid guest. UPDATED: See at the bottom. The link above shows how you can enable the intrepid-proposed in one of two ways. You can add the following line into /etc/apt/sources.lst: deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid-proposed restricted main multiverse universe Or, you can go to System -> Admi... [read more]
add to discussionI kid you not. Read Hot Air’s post, Well, someone’s a chump. What presumptuous arrogance by the aspiring Redistributor in Chief! He really tihnks that your money should be his, that his socialist government could spend it more worthily than you who actually earned the money. From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs. That’s classic Marxism. If Obama isn’t a socialist, then water ain’t wet. Obama’s TV commercial falsely asserts that we can’t afford John McCain. Friends, Obama’s trillions in income redistribution, higher tax... [read more]
