Malawi Wow!

They're back and Mark VanderPol has posted a site with dozens of gorgeous and amazing photos with some brief descriptions. The thumbnail I used for this post does not do these pictures justice.

One of our students Fletcher Matandika founded an organization in Malawi several years ago to feed children and teach the Bible to them. The students worked with Fletcher's organization and they also taught seminary classes -- maybe now they'll have a little more sympathy for their old seminary profs?

I'll try to get more information to you about Fletcher's work.

Better Things to Do Than Transforming the World? CT Gets it Right

I've been critical of CT so I try to give credit when the editorial staff gets it right. There's a nice editorial online from Mark Galli today regarding "transforming" the world. There are no references to Darryl Hart, but one wonders if Mark hasn't been reading Darryl?

Christian Leaders Debate Global Warming Before Senate

Evangelical, mainline and the Catholic traditions were all citing scriptures from the same Bible as support for their stance on global warming, yet they still remained intensely divided over the issue as they shared their views before a U.S. senate committee on ...

Russell Moore on Climate Change

I read Dr. Russell Moore’s testimony to the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works, and it’s a careful reflection on the climate change debate from an evangelical perspective. Dr. Moore does not go along with the Sojourner wing of evangelicalism which has been trying to demote life-issues in the consciences of evangelicals. This fact was apparent in Dr. Moore ’s testimony when he argued the following:

“Evangelical Christians are concerned that any public policy proposals on global warming do not compromise the uniqueness and dignity of humanity. . . Any public policy proposal on global climate change that seeks to enlist the support of evangelicals must address the role of population control in such an agenda. This is especially true in an era when millions of unborn children every year, in the United States alone, lose their lives to abortion; when governments such as that of China coercively determine family size. Evangelical global warming activists assure us they remain committed to the sanctity of human life; and I believe them. But those who are still unsure of the precise contribution of human beings to climate change will be especially attentive to whether any proposal—even one we can support otherwise—does not sacrifice the dignity of human life.”

I certainly couldn’t have said it better myself.

“Religious leaders testify in Senate on warming” - Reuters

Russell Moore Goes to Washington

She’s not a pugilist, but her name is Barbara Boxer. And Dr. Russell Moore will be testifying before her Senate committee this Thursday morning, 10:00 AM ET, June 7 (see full schedule).

The U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works will be holding hearings this week entitled “An Examination of the Views of Religious Organizations Regarding Global Warming.” Dr. Moore will testify among a constellation of religious illuminati from all sides of the theological spectrum. In fact, the first person scheduled to testify is Katherine Jefforts Schori, the controversial Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church.

I don’t know where Moore is on the global warming question, but my hunch is that he will probably be somewhere to the right of Schori and Boxer. In fact, when she hears Dr. Moore’s testimony, Boxer may turn out to be a pugilist after all.

Dr. Moore has his work cut out for him, and we should all be praying for him as we tune in to C-SPAN this Thursday morning.

“An Examination of the Views of Religious Organizations Regarding Global Warming”
